What it's for

Audiobookshelf is our own audiobook and podcast library. Browse the collection, hit play, and it remembers exactly where you stopped — so you can start a chapter on the phone in the car and finish it in the browser at home. It also fetches new podcast episodes automatically.

Getting in

  • Open: https://ab.fmm.house — on the home Wi-Fi/LAN, or from anywhere with Tailscale connected.
  • Sign in: with your own Audiobookshelf account. Ask the admin if you need one set up.

How to use it

Browse & play in the browser

  • Pick a library (Audiobooks or Podcasts) from the top of the page.
  • Click a title to see its details, chapters, and description.
  • Press play to listen right in the browser. The player has chapter skipping, playback-speed control, and a progress bar you can scrub.

The mobile app

  • Install Audiobookshelf from the App Store or Google Play.
  • On first launch, choose Add Server and enter https://ab.fmm.house, then log in with your account.
  • Everything in your library appears in the app. You can download titles for offline listening on a plane or a spotty connection.

Note

The app only reaches the server on the LAN or with Tailscale connected. Download the titles you want before you head somewhere without either.

Resume & progress sync

  • Your listening position syncs back to the server continuously.
  • Switch between the app and the browser (or between devices) and each one picks up where the last left off — no manual bookmarking needed to resume.

Bookmarks & sleep timer

  • Drop a bookmark at any moment you want to jump back to later; bookmarks sync with your account.
  • Use the sleep timer to stop playback after a set time or at the end of the current chapter — handy for listening as you fall asleep.

Podcasts

  • In a podcast library, use Add Podcast and search or paste an RSS feed to subscribe.
  • Choose how many past episodes to grab and whether to auto-download new ones.
  • The server checks subscribed feeds on a schedule and pulls in new episodes for you.

Tips

  • Bump the playback speed (1.2x–1.5x) for talk-heavy nonfiction or podcasts to get through them faster.
  • If a book's cover or chapters look wrong, open its details and use the match/edit tools to refresh the metadata.
  • Downloaded audio in the mobile app plays even with no network — the position resyncs the next time you're back on the LAN or Tailscale.
