What it's for

PeerTube is a video site for the household: upload your own videos and watch them in a clean, YouTube-like interface with channels, playlists, and subscriptions. It's the place for home movies, recordings, and clips you want to keep and share without handing them to a public platform. It stays entirely private to the LAN/tailnet — nothing here is on the public internet.

Getting in

  • Open: https://tube.fmm.house — on the home Wi-Fi/LAN, or from anywhere with Tailscale connected.
  • Sign in: PeerTube has its own accounts. You can browse and watch without logging in; to upload or subscribe, ask the admin for an account and sign in.

How to use it

Watch and browse

The home page lists recent and trending videos. Browse by Channels to see everything from one creator, or open a Playlist to watch a set in order. Click a video to play — the player has the usual quality, speed, fullscreen, and volume controls.

Upload a video

Once signed in, click Publish / Upload, pick your file, and choose which channel it belongs to. Add a title, description, and thumbnail while it processes. Set the privacy before you publish: - Public — visible to anyone who can reach the server. - Unlisted — only people with the direct link. - Private — just you. - Internal — only logged-in users on this instance.

Subscriptions

Subscribe to channels you follow so their new videos collect under your Subscriptions feed instead of hunting for them each time.

Playlists

Group videos into playlists — a trip, a project, a watch-later list — and share the playlist link with other users on the instance.

Tips

Note

"Public" here still means the home network only. Everything on this PeerTube is reachable solely over the LAN or Tailscale — no one on the open internet can see it.

  • Large uploads take a while to transcode into multiple qualities; the video appears once processing finishes, so give it a few minutes.
  • Use Unlisted for something you want to hand to one specific person via link without it showing up in the main listings.
